Cookie Policy

Learn how RagTether uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can manage your preferences.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies — such as local storage, session storage, and pixels — may serve comparable purposes. This Cookie Policy explains how RagTether uses these technologies on ragtether.com, our control plane application, and related marketing pages.

This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more broadly.

Where we use cookies

We use cookies in two main contexts:

  • RagTether marketing site: pages such as our homepage, pricing, support, and waitlist where we measure traffic and remember preferences.
  • RagTether control plane: the authenticated dashboard where merchants configure stores, agents, knowledge bases, and billing.
  • Embeddable chat widget: the widget deployed on merchant storefronts may use strictly necessary cookies or local storage to maintain chat sessions. Merchants are responsible for disclosing widget cookies to their shoppers under their own storefront policies.

Categories of cookies we use

We group cookies by purpose so you can understand what is essential and what is optional:

  • Strictly necessary: required for security, authentication, load balancing, and core site functionality. These cannot be switched off without breaking the Service.
  • Functional: remember choices such as theme (light/dark), language, or dismissed notices so your experience is consistent across visits.
  • Analytics: help us understand how visitors and signed-in users navigate pages, which features are used, and where errors occur. We use this data in aggregate to improve RagTether.
  • Marketing (if enabled): measure newsletter signups, campaign performance, or retargeting on third-party platforms. We only set marketing cookies where permitted and, where required by law, after you give consent.

Examples of cookies and storage keys

Specific names may change as we update our stack, but typical examples include:

  • Session and authentication tokens to keep you signed in to the control plane.
  • Theme preference storage for light, dark, or system appearance.
  • Analytics identifiers from privacy-conscious analytics tools to count page views and conversion events on our marketing site.
  • CSRF and security cookies that protect forms such as the waitlist and login flows.
  • Chat widget session identifiers that let a shopper continue a conversation without losing context.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies are placed by service providers acting on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, payment, or authentication partners. These providers may also receive technical data described in our Privacy Policy.

When you connect third-party integrations inside RagTether — for example Shopify, WhatsApp, or payment processors — those services may set their own cookies when you authenticate with them. Their use is governed by their respective policies.

How long cookies last

Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain for a set period or until you delete them — for example, to remember login state for up to 30 days or to store analytics identifiers for 12 months, depending on the cookie.

Retention periods for analytics and marketing cookies are kept as short as reasonably necessary for their purpose.

Managing your preferences

You can control cookies in several ways:

  • Browser settings: most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from signing in or using parts of the control plane.
  • Theme and UI preferences: where we store appearance settings locally, you can clear site data for ragtether.com in your browser to reset them.
  • Marketing emails: unsubscribe links in our emails stop promotional messages but do not by themselves remove analytics cookies already set on our site.
  • Do Not Track: our site may not respond to DNT signals uniformly across browsers; use cookie controls above for clearer choices.

Consent

Where required by law — including in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and similar jurisdictions — we request consent before placing non-essential analytics or marketing cookies on our marketing site. Essential cookies for security and authentication do not require consent.

If we introduce a cookie consent banner, your choices will be stored and honored on subsequent visits until you clear cookies or change settings.

Updates to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add new tools, change providers, or update legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be posted on this page.
